I do not as I use the same tank for HT as QT. It is bare bottomed and dimly lit. It is empty if not in use. It seems that would be more trouble than it is worth to have a CUC. Most things a fish gets a snail or hermit won't transmit but why bother?
There are a couple of paracites that affect fish that have an intermediate larvel phase that need snails to live. I can't remember which one off hand but it is possible to transmit disease from gastropod to fish.
Not sure it's you really need to worry though. I've never QT my CUC. It might be something to look at if there are any unexplained morts.
when i receive my orders, i acclimate it to some tank water, and do a couple of transfers from bucket to bucket, just to make sure no bad water or any swimming stuff gets passed into my display tank.
Thanks for the replies guys.
I have never QT mine, and never felt the need to.
I have a friend who imports fish/soft corals. He mentioned as i am setting up a larger tank if i fancied i could get my CUC from his sources at cost price.
Im just wondering as i would be getting them shipped in directly from countries of origen/supplier if it would be smart to QT. Anyone know if retailers give any special treatment to CUC like they do fish when freshly imported?
