So im going through a tank rebuild build and i have a wooden canopy from my old set up. I moved and put it in storage under my house( dark and cold place). I went to check on it and saw that it had few different colors of mold on it. I'm posting here because i wanna know is it worth saving or should just build another one. I don't you know if the mold is in the inside of the canopy wood or just the surface. I was thinking i could sand it then use a sealant and then paint it black but i really have no clue on how to go about doing this. Any info would be helpful folks.

After all the work you'll have to put into the old one in order to make it 'safe'(sanding, killing mold, and sealing), I would just build a new one and seal it. Who knows what molds/fungus are growing and what affect they would have on the ecology of the tank, not worth the $40 dollar savings(if you save any) you'll get by reusing the wood.

Welp, i figured as much. At least I'll have something new to work on for my tank. Probably gdt to it this weekend hopefully.

I am not sure if your lighting is separate from the canopy but if it is not then for that reason alone I would build a new one. Things can look ok from the outside but contacts and even the wire itself can be corroded. If everything looks pristine I would save the electrical components and still build a new canopy. Too much to chance with the mold, and not just for the fish but for anyone who comes in contact with it.
