Should I cover tank to slow down evap?

I'm setting up my qt and just wondering if I ever go with hyposalinity as an option and I want to really limit evap to keep salinity in my 20gal qt at 1.009...are there any bad consequences for covering tank completly so water doesn't evap as fast?

Or is it not even a big deal as long as I top off daily?

My QT is 20g, no lid, just gets in the way of, traps carbon dioxide, does matter unless your QT friends are jumpers.

Ha thx, might just get egg crates and cut to size for the top..exited also getting my hana salinity tester so will make hyposalinity easier if needed.

The best way to do this is to get an auto-top off unit. Particularly with the hyposalinity method for eliminating ich, you want excellent control of the salinity. Anything below 1.009 is going to unnecessarily stress a fish that already is (potentially) weakened by ich and the rough handling/stress of importation, not being fed for shipping purposes, etc... And anything more than 1.009 may not be effective at preventing/curing ich.

This used to be a pretty expensive proposition, but with all of the options out there now, you should be able to pick something up that's not too fancy but will do the job for your QT without hitting the wallet too hard.

You can cover it as long as you have a way to keep the O2 -CO2 correct. Just add an air pump with an air stone. Keep in mind however that evaporation cools the water temp, so do your own math on whether that may be an issue where you have it set up.
