Should I get another puffer? Having a hard time with this!

Here's the story. I LOVE puffers. They are by far and away my favorite fish. I have a Stars & Stripes puffer that is my pride and joy. Up until Monday I had a black dogface puffer that I lost in a tragic accident (he somehow jumped out of the tank) :(

Since that I have been debating whether or not to get another puffer (or 2). I've always wanted a GOLDEN puffer and wanted to get another black dogface puffer. I had zero problems with the S&S and the black together.

I have one of my LFS on the lookout for the golden and a black which he says he can probably get for me in the next couple of weeks.

I have a 225 gallon 6' tank with the S&S puffer, 2 triggers (clown & picasso), 1 sohal tang, 1 volitan lion, 1 fuzzy dwarf lion, 1 lunare wrasse, & 1 foxface.

So it's only 8 fish in my tank, but I don't want to overcrowd my tank either.

What do you guys think? OK to get both, only 1, none? I'm really debating this right now, and I need to let the guy know if I don't want them b/c he has to special order them and the golden is very expensive....

Sorry for you loss.

You have a better feel for the size and tempermant of your fish than we do. On paper, that appears to be a lot of fish, but if they are all 1", then that isn't a lot of fish. If they are all 6", then you might be full already.

Get some eggcrate on that tank top, or build a higher rim on it---mine is 9 inches of freeboard, and it discourages jumpers.

I think putting 2 more in there would definitely overcrowd it. Goldens are usually no less that 8" when you get them anyways so I think if you must try for another black dogface.

just curious, how big is your s&s? and how long have you had him? thanks :D

I've had him about 1 1/2 years. I'd say he's about 8" or so. I've decided against getting another black dogface. I'll either get the Golded or just stick with what I have.

I love my golden puffer, even when he splashes water all over when he wants pellets. THe only thing is that you might get him and he doesnt get along with your S-S puffer. Sometimes for unknown reasons puffers will fight.
