should I proceed with treatment?

Hello,

I'm sorry to be posting another ich question, but I've been reading stickies all morning and I've got a few questions about identifying it.

I have a firefish in QT right now. It has been in there since Thursday 9/11. The fish looked clean and healthy until about Saturday 9/13, when I noticed a couple white specs on his dorsal and pectoral fins, but nowhere on the rest of is body. I dosed prazipro (not related to ich, I know) on Monday 9/15 and the spots went away by Tuesday and haven't showed up again since yesterday 9/22. I did a water change on Sunday the day before the spots appeared again, but other than that everything seems ok.

The spots are very small and can only be seen when looking straight at the fish with the black background behind the fins. While the lights are on the fish is either swimming around the middle of the tank, or hiding near some PVC. I have never seen the fish near the top trying to get any air. Also, the fish seems to be eating regularly.

I have seen bad cases of ich before, but I don't know what the early stages might look like, so I was wondering if this could be anything else that I might look in to. Also, should I begin treating for ich or wait to insure I have correctly identified the problem. I will probably treat with copper because I don't have room for another QT tank for TT method.

I would appreciate any help I could get.

Thanks

Based on the timeline, it sounds like ich coming & going on the firefish. Lympho doesn't usually drop off that quickly. The only other possibility is if you had sand in the QT?

It is empty, except for 2 PVC elbows. I was hoping it might be some type of bubble or debris, since it happened after water changes both times (WC done with some DT water in addition to fresh, no fish in DT yet, this will be first fish), but I think it is more likely it is ich as well. Should I notice these white spots to be in the same spot for about 3 days?
