Should I upgrade my lighting for the new tank?

My previous tank was 36" long and I originally started with a 24" halide/T5 fixture on top. A few months later I replaced that fixture with a 36" 6 bulb ATI Sunpower that gave a better spread.

Long story short, that tank crashed after my house flooded. Now I'm getting ready to start another tank and this time it's a 48" long 120g.

I still have the 36" ATI. Think that would work on the 120? Or should I get a 48"? The spread of the single 250w halide that was in the 24" fixture was not enough for the 36" tank, but these being T5's, it may be enough.

The tank will be an SPS dominant tank

I'd try the 36" over the new tank and see how well it spread. Will the new tank have a canopy or will you be hanging the fixture which would also allow you to raise the fixture and get better spread?

If it doesn't work out, you can always buy the 48" fixture. It's not like they are going to stop making them. LOL!
