Should i worry about the fumes???

My tank sits on an awesome stand that i built, but when i stained it i used an all-in-one stain that, they claim, does not need a coat of poly. I think the stand looks a bit dull and i would love to add a coat of polyurathane to it.

I can take off the doors but obviously i would have to paint the "bones" with the tank running. Do you think this is safe? I am worried about the fumes.

I'd be careful. Maybe wait until it warms up and you can keep the windows open. Then maybe do one panel at a time. I'm just guessing, though.

I would seriously worry about the fumes. Usually urethanes use a pretty potent solvent such as MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) which is a carcinogen to say the least. I am sure that it could reek serious havok on a reef tank. I think crumbletops suggestions are good. Wait until you can do it without alot of air flow through your house and around the tank.
