Show fish(s) for a 48"x12"x12" 33g

I think I'd reduce the number, after all it's just 33 gallons, even though it is a 4' tank.

Minor changes I would suggest:
1 - Tail Spot Blenny (Ecsenius stigmatura)
2 (1 pair) - Filamented Flasher Wrasse Trio (Paracheilinus filamentosus)
1 single - Firefish Pair (Nemateleotris magnifica) - I think these actually do better by themselves
1 single - Flame Hawkfish Pair (Neocirrhitus armatus)

For the hawkfish, my flame never bothered hermits or snails, just shrimp.

alright that list will probably fill up the tank when all the fish are full grown anyways lol. do you think there would be any room in case my mom wants to throw in a percula or B&W occelaris?

EDIT: for the pair of wrasses, would it be best to wait and look for a pair on DD or should i like buy 2 seperate specimans and hope they pair up? also are they like clowns where they start male and some turn female or are some born male and some female? i might order these fish through a LFS to help them out and see them in person but i dont want to end up with 2 males or 2 females. thanks

I am going to vote for a pair of clowns they are so interesting to watch I a pair of black ones they are always hanging around in my anemones very cute to watch. I think they are a must have for any reef.Blennys are also so cute they pose up on the rocks.

i might throw in a clown or two. i just got a B&W ocellaris with an orange face for my 75, i might end with a pair of B&W ocellaris for the 75. if i do go with clowns, i want like a pair of misbar clowns or something, ya know an odd clown :)

ok i need some imput on the "main fish(es)". i think a Filamented Flasher Wrasse pair (Paracheilinus filamentosus) would be really cool but im thinking it might be too much in the 33? do people think if i put a Red Spot Cardinalfish Group of 5 (Apogon parvulus) in the 33 would that be too much? i also am going to put a mandarin in the tank cuase it would be more enjoyed than in the 75 FOWLR. I have two lists made, which one do people prefer:

#1
1 - Tail Spot Blenny (Ecsenius stigmatura)
2 (1 pair) - Filamented Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus filamentosus)
1 - Firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica) -
1 - Flame Hawkfish (Neocirrhitus armatus)
1 - Green Mandarin (Synchiropus splendidus)

OR

#2

1 - Tail Spot Blenny (Ecsenius stigmatura)
5 - Red Spot Cardinalfish (Apogon parvulus)
1 - Firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica) -
1 - Flame Hawkfish (Neocirrhitus armatus)
1 - Green Mandarin (Synchiropus splendidus)

The red-spot cardinals are tiny--the hawkfish will snap them up like popcorn.

I also think it would be a better idea to keep the mandarin in the 75--more pod-producing capacity. Are you going to get one of the ORA mandarins?

that is always something you like to hear. ive been looking into getting a group from DD that are full grown. if i got those and then a small (like 2-3inch hawkfish) would that be ok? im just curious but is that info based on "facts" from the internet or did it actually happen to you?

EDIT: im not sure about an ORA mandarin, my plan was to get one in many months so the tank can get established and such. i have a lot of fish in the 75 already and i have some sand-bed type fish like the mandarin so i dont want aggresion with them.

ya, if you have a bunch of fish that like to say on the sand they may fight and from one 14 year old to another Good luck with your tank.

thanks ThunderTang. I cant find the info on where each fish prefers to swim so i think from common sense i can figure out where each fish prefers to swim and then i can go from there:

#1
1 - Tail Spot Blenny (Ecsenius stigmatura) - bottom and maybe middle
2 (1 pair) - Filamented Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus filamentosus) - all over
1 - Firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica) - bottom and middle
1 - Flame Hawkfish (Neocirrhitus armatus) - bottom and middle
1 - Green Mandarin (Synchiropus splendidus) - bottom

OR

#2

1 - Tail Spot Blenny (Ecsenius stigmatura) - bottom and maybe middle
5 - Red Spot Cardinalfish (Apogon parvulus) - all over (?)
1 - Firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica) - bottom and middle
1 - Flame Hawkfish (Neocirrhitus armatus) bottom and middle
1 - Green Mandarin (Synchiropus splendidus) bottom

it seems like both lists are sortof balanced with fish swimming in different levels. im not sure why i posted this, now that i think of it oh well.

I didn't mean to discourage you or sound dismissive. I've never kept a hawkfish, but I do a lot of reading--in books and magazines, not just on the internet (and there are reliable internet sources, if you look beyond forums). I'd rather rely on expertise than solely on anecdotal evidence. Hawkfish are voracious predators and cardinalfish are prey species (A. parvulus only gets to be about 1.6" long, and longnose hawkfish have large mouths for their size). The account below originally appeared in one of the references I use frequently.

Here's a Fishbase account on A. parvulus, including adult size (FishBase tends to have a lot of issues, so if the link doesn't work just go straight to the site and do a search under scientific name):

Ultimately, of course, it's your decision. I do think mixing a hawkfish with small, edible fishes is a gamble with a predictable outcome, however.

its alright it is a good point tho so ill consider it. honestly the fishbase link looks like mumble jumble to me.

FishBase is useful for finding out information like adult size, distribution (which is helpful if you're planning a biotope), and sometimes habitat--when it's working. It's more of a research tool, so it doesn't provide captive care information for aquarists. The other site that I linked is a resource specifically designed for aquarists, and I would recommend looking at it if you have questions about any species you're considering.

LOL--palmer373, if you're like me, you probably have about 6 tanks in mind that you'd like to set up. If I ever won the lottery, my house would look like a public aquarium.

well im not sure how high my count is lol. lets count:

biotope tank
angler tank
cool nano tank
frag tank
Large reef
Large FOWLR
predator tank
saltwater water bed
shark/stingray tank (dads idea, i agree :D )
oh and a public aquarium.

i think that is what 10 tank ideas? im pretty sure the lotto wont be enough to build all of my tanks considering my house isnt big enough plus my parents would kick me out cuase i would replace their bedroom with a frag tank :D
