anyone out there have a chocolate tang (Acanthurus pyroferus), i saw one yesterday and I fell in love with it. it wasnt quite to the full adult coloration though so i am wondering what it will look like in the full adult phase.

if you have one would you please post some pics..are they one of the easier tangs to care for? ich prone? it will be with a kole tang, yellow tang, yellow belly blue hippo all added at the same time except for the kole that is already in my reef tank..

appreciate any input you have!

here is mine right after I got him...he has darkened up some but Ithink these are still his juvi colors..

appreciate the response guys! oh wow Mache62 he is a awesome. how long have you had yours? I got mine in tonight, I got one from the divers den along with a yellow belly blue hippo, can you say heaven..mine just has a little of the brown coming out. I have them in a 46 gallon bowfront for quarantine hope that will be big enough they are both around 3"

I was wanting an Atlantic blue tang and I have been watching the den but never saw one but when I laid eyes on the chocolate I knew I had to have one.. I wished I could have the Atlantic too but think now I am out of room..need a bigger tank but isn't that always the case with reef tanks?

got any advice on them, favorite food etc. mine is swimming around and really active so looking good.

Here's mine, full adult colors, had him for about 8-10 months now. My fav fish in my tank. A happy fish.

Mache62 that is one gorgeous fish, i would be happy with one that looked like that but i am sure it will only get better.

fade 32 how old is yours mine is just now starting to get some of the brown tones like yours?

thanks for the pics everyone keep them coming

That was a shot from right after we had gotten him. He is a great fish, friendly with everyone and eats like a pig!
My understanding is they are slow growers so I have no idea how long before he changes colors.

she's about 5 1/2" . I had a Hippo as well but one day she aquired a taste for my red open brain. She had to go ! :eek1:

i never imagined a hippo would go after a brain..guess i will have to watch out for mine . what does yours like to eat, any favorites?
thanks for posting everyone.

tangafish: what are you feeding your Hippo tang? I have one and he is just grazing the rocks... nori dip with entice, guarlic guard, selcon, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, cyclop eeze and flakes... nothing is working for me... any tricks?

i just got me hippo last week so trying to figure out what he likes best. he is quarantine now and no algae on what little rock i do have in there so i have been giving him a couple different kinds of algae sheets, cant remember off the top of my head what kind they are but can check tonight, some brine shrimp, flakes and pellets. he seems to like the pellets the best both of them do. they both have been eating since day one and i havent had to add any type of enticement to the food.

i2ik how long have you had yours? how big is it?
