show me pics of your chocolate tang

Mine have not been eating since first day. I just pick it up at the LFS since i got a decent price for it. Its been about a month, maybe a bit more. He is about 3.5-4". Up to now, he is swimming around, no ick since first day and grazing on the rocks which is his only food to this day. I dunno what to feed him or a proper way to make him eat.

One of my favorite tangs. The adult colors look great, I don't think most people realize how nice these fish look full grown.

Wow, these fish are gorgeous! I just realized that yellow mimic tangs, are chocolate tangs. Is this right? My LFS, thatfishplace, has them listed as yellow mimic tangs, but the scientific name is Acanthurus pyroferus. I've always thought they were just boring old yellow tangs, but they grow up to be beauties! Great looking fish everyone! Marinelife, I love the emperor, I am definitely getting another when I upgrade tanks, what corals do you have him with?

Tanga, I do not have any other tangs yet. I would like to get a sailfin and or a kole tang to go with him.

ha ha he likes to eat....ALOT!

So are Lemonpeel Mimics & Chocolates the same fish? I see them both listed as Acanthurus pyroferus but the sample pictures are a little contradictory. One has the juvenile colors with blue around the eyes & gills (lemonpeel mimic) & the other doesn't (chocolate). So is it luck of the draw if you get the blue highlights or is that just a stage of their coloration that follows the solid yellow?

Photos pulled from ReefHotSpot and both listed as Acanthurus pyroferus
Chocolate Juvenile $29.99 (2-3in)

Lemonpeel Mimic $59.99 (3-5in)

Good news! My Hippo Tang w/ yellow belly just started eating Nori. Its the only food he is eating up to now. I will be putting guarlic guard for the next sheets of nori. Is there a way to make him eat other stuff than that? Maybe finding a way to stick some mysis shrimp on the Nori?

I2ik mine really like some pellets that I have, they are made by HBH super soft frozen food alternative, it has spirulina in it. I think I got it at petco but they probably have it or something like it at your LFS. both of the tangs are steadily munching on it. of course I have been putting them some veggie sheets in there, they are made by julian sprung. My yellow bellow hippo is still shy, I am hoping once he gets in the big tank he will stay out in the open more but the chocolate is out and about all day long.

scar34face the mimic and the chocolate are one in the same. The adult coloration varies a lot, that is why I started this thread because the adult pics I found while researching online all looked so different, some have a dark chocolate hence the name, some have a bluish coloration, but regardless the final product they are all beautiful and very distinctive fish.

wow Mache62 you have yours trained well, eats right out of the baster, I haven't even thought about that, I feed my sun corals with it but hadn't thought about it with the fish. clever

The tang is such a pig! The baster was really for the copper band who will only eat the mysis but keeps getting muscled out of the way.
