Very nice looking setup.
will be upgrading to a tank with similar dimensions (200x85x70) (80x34x28) and would appreciate your help with the following:
-Do you think going with a 75 cm (30 inches) height would still be manageable (in terms of being able to arrange corals on the lower levels?
-isn't 12mm a bit too thin for a tank this size? on my tank the builder is suggesting 15 or eevn 20mm?
-will you go with islands for scaping or will it be a rock wall that separates the two rooms from seing each other? and in that case do yo uthink going deeper would have allowed you a better scape from both sides or is 70cm enough?
Thanks.
Sorry for my delayed response, haven't checked the thread out for a few weeks now. Been working on the tank:dance:
To anwer your questions best as I can:
1) 70cm seems like a workable depth. I've got fairly long arms, but I reckon 75mm might be pushing it a bit when trying to work on the opposite side of my tank - I can only access from the kitchen side so to speak.
2) all the glass calculators tend to suggest that 12mm is a little thin. However talking to all the local tank builders, they were adament that it was fine. To compensate, I've gone for Euro as well as Centre bracing on top. Steel stand is very robust with the tank seating on a 18mm thick marine ply board, then styrene. I'll let you know if it all works when filling time comes:bigeyes: (I'm about a week away from W day)
3) I'm thinking of an island design, one bigger than the other. Will stick the rock down for stability and endevour to build to a height of 50cm.
4) Have to say, overall I'm happy with visual effect created by the 70cm depth. If I wanted a bigger Display Tank, I'd probably go for a wider, not deeper setup. I couldn't do that, given that I constructed the stand some 2 years earlier when building the house.
