all your levels need to be perfect before you can put the live rocks in correct? (ph, nitrate, nitrite, ammo, gravity)....and wouldent your 2.5 basically be considered a refugium with nothing to eat off of it?

your ph and salinity should be perfect before you add rock. however, the water will not have amonia, nitrite, or nitrate (if purified water is used) until something urinates in it. so, if you mixed it properly, it is already perfect. if you use cured live rock it will still be perfect. at this point the bacteria on the rock is active and ready to process waste.

Ok I see where this is going now everything is just about god accept the salt... but i think i have a busted hydrometer m just going to bring a sample of water to the store with me and see if they will test it for me....

Lil' update on my tank! today i brought the water sample to a LFS....I found out its not my hydrometer that is busted....its just me! - so i bought a box of instant ocean and I emptied my tank cleaned everything put new water some treatment (cause i am using tap) and i took everything out of it so now i just have a tank of water a filter and thats about it....im going to wait until my temp gets about right and im going to dump in the salt! i have to save a little money so i can get a new light cause i dont think the one that is on there is going to be strong enough. so im going to do a little research on lights and all that kind of good stuff....possibaly a protien skimmer or something for a little more curculation in my tank! i want to thank everyone for posting pics, advice, and links....but please dont stop it really helps out a lot!

Ok fishbabies, so what the ???? is that white thing?
Looks like a starfish and a crab got busy and made a starcrab. ;- )

It is a Staghorn Hermit Crab...not sure which comes first, the chicken or the egg, but the staghorn is alive and the hermit uses his claw to scoop out more space in the stag when it needs more room. They only come from the Sea of Cortez. It is very funny to watch. It is also about the size of a quarter...with the hermit being about the size of a flat thumbtack head.

Any contemporary florist should have 'em....or you can search [8" glass cube vase] on google. My office building has bunches of 'em...the glass quality isn't great, bad clarity, but i like the natural look....it's like 1920's science lab
