64 Ivy- Any purple tips on that delicate stag?? What kind of lighting are you currently using?
No discernable purple tips yet but I've only had the piece 3 months or so. Kept about 24" below a combination of 250W 10K MHs and 400W 20K Radiums, all in Spiderlite reflectors. Water flow is moderate and alternating.

Your a lucky man Naka, Those ORA frags you won are unreal!!!
Thanks Stoney. The green elkhorn looking digitata is the brightest and biggest polyps in my tank. 2 x larger than my sunset monti polyps and brighter. Also, fast grower.

Quick question, does ORA have a Green Elkhorn monti AND a new green elkhorn looking digi like Naka got? I got my Elkhorn about a year ago and from the pics, it looks VERY similar to yours Naka but I know you got there new stuff in the raffle so I am a little confused. Mine also has the biggest neon green polyps I have ever seen but again, I doubt it is the same thing you have since I got mine so long ago. I recieved a very small frag/nub and it has just started to really take off.

WentReef- I think PC has these. They don't look like that....yet!

Oooooohhhhh that marshall island is-was gorgeous.

64Ivy, man, you do have awesome growth on that tort and such a stable tank all these past years. Sweet, sweet, sweet.

You know, for all the corals I have, 30something of them in my small little 70 g tank, not one is an ORA. What a shame. I need to do something about that :D.

I was reading an article where Dustin was interviewed about ORA and in it he said that they are farming something like 14 or 16 different acros all marketed/named "Marshal Island Acro" so there are probably gonna be alot of different variations. I want it, matter a fact I WANT THEM ALL!!!

When I picked it out from the ORA tank, Dustin told me this monti was a new item.

You can see the large colony in his office tank photos. According to Dustin under different lighting conditions, the polyps turn bright yellow.

Hey bigt0706... what ORA coral is this? I saw one at my LFS but they didn't know which one it was. Anyone know?

64ivy - We brought "Chips" back from Germany in 2002. When it came time to start selling it, we were at a loss for trade names. Chip was an employee in the coral greenhouse at the time and that happened to be his favorite coral. At the time we had been naming corals based on the person they came from, but the German name was a bit too complex so we went with Chip, nice and simple.

Naka - Stoney Mahoney - Our Elkhorn montipora is just army green or brown. I dont think the polyps have any color to them. We call coral that Naka has Jeremy's Monti. It originally came from Jeremy Russell from Coral Reef Aquarium. Its growth form is sort of half way between a typical digitata and our elkhorn monitpora. Its normally dark green with bright green or yellow polyps and whitish tips. The piece I have in the office tank is sorta of yellowish green with yellow/green polyps, it almost looks bleached out but the color has been the same for five or six months now. Its kind of a newer coral for us, but I think we have taken some to MACNA or IMAC in the past. I am sure a lot of other people have gotten it from Jeremy too.

Stoney - You are right about the Marshall Islands corals. There are a number of different types but most of them go out the door as Assorted Marshalls Acros.

Pugroyale - that coral is "German Green with Blue Polyp Acro". Maybe its time for a contest to rename that thing, it needs it pretty bad. If I recall it was originally collected in the Red Sea in the early 90's

well ito show my admiration for ORA millis i did this tonight, put a frag of my ORA pink (maybe rose), blue, and green on the same rock - gonna love it in a year!

thats beautiful dood... what happened to it??
Katrina wiped me out. All the pics in my gallery are pre katrina, several ORA. I'm still cycling on my second month right now. I don't stock untill any algaes and cyanos are done their rounds. I think this one will be quick though. I cooked my LR and sand in tubs for close to a year. Ooh, and pods showed up the other day.
Whenever I start to stock my tank I MUST get another marshall island acro like my previous though.

I would just call it GBP acro short for German blue polyp. I kind of like the original name b/c it gives the color and a hint of it's origin. I would stick with the original and just abreviate it. It wouldn't take long and anybody who does any reading would know what the ORA GBP acro is. It would be like everyone says GSP instead of green star polyps(still a cool name, just too long). :)

Dustin, Thanks for the info on the history of the naming of the "chips acro" nice, simple, and fun.

I third the GPB Ora acro...easy enough and it will certainly catch on.
