Show me your RO/DI Units!

I'm an Addict.
I really want one, currently have a 29g, but I'm already sick of buying distilled water,

so... my question is.... HOW DO I HOOK THESE UP?

None of my faucets in my house have a connector for a unit... Not really sure how these work, or how to hook them up, I'm on the 2nd level in my house, (has a bathroom with 2 sinks) no screw on though, so it would be nice to have a unit up here, but I'm not sure how they hook up or which kind to be, also we have tap water obviously, but is it fine to have softener salt in the tap water for RO/DI or no??? I would just like to see pictures of your setups,, I'm completely new to the whole RO/DI! Thanks!!!

Do you have a washing machine?

Most RO/DIs attach with a female garden hose type thread. You could get a splitter from any hardware store. Just take the cold water line loose, attach the splitter and RO/DI and you're in business. Just run the drain for the RO/DI into the washing machine drain.

Or you can get whats called a piercing saddle valve (like for an ice maker) and you could tap just about any cold water line you can get to.

If you're totally clueless I'd get a plumber to do it.

my dad is a plumber :-) ,,, i just needed general idea so I could tell him =] ... thanks though i appeciate it!

Here is mine mounted under my kitchen sink in my condo.

The red hooks up to my faucet

Black is drain

Blue with valve is RO drinking water

All blue is RO/DI

I make 30g on Saturday,& it lasts the week.

That is a great depiction, thanks. Actually one of the best explanations of how these units hook up. I am looking at one myself and I had no idea how they worked. Thanks!

I'll play.... :D

Here's my RO setup complete with "RO/DIY" Kalk reactor. I used a "Y" garden hose adapter to tap into the cold water line that feeds my washing machine. All waste water goes down the washing machine drain. My tank is on the other side of the wall behind the RO unit and a small hole in the wall allows the unit to feed water into my sump. My ATO system does not use a resevoir, but instead uses solenoid valves to control the RO unit.

Here she is:

The yellow line is the tap water feed line. The red wire connected to the yellow line is the TDS reader before RO/DI

The small blue line goes to the DI and the blue line over to the right
is the RO/DI water, where the blue wire measures the TDS after RO/DI

The gauge in the upper left is the pressure gauge and the blue rectangular box is the TDS meter where you can switch from water in and water out...TDS before RO/DI 123 after RO/DI 0

I got mine from Fire, water and Ice. It has paid for itself the first time I filled my tank.

I think you mean airwaterice:p . I second them, great unit.

Not the greatest picture but decent unit or the price.. 100GPD Aqua-Safe

The picture shows 1 DI cartridge but it actually came with three + a bag of DI resin.

I rent my townhouse, so no cutting of pipes for me, I just hook it up to the kitchen sink, and when I am done making water it goes under it, with the hoses ABOVE the RO membrane so it doesn't dry out.

wow very awesome,,, setups rock... yea as far as I'm aware all aerators are screw on, they just don't look it but what I've seen most units coming with is a 3/4 in garden hose adapter, so should I buy an adapter that fits my sink aerator, and then goes to male 3/4" garden hose??? also, you just leave the line in like a 5g bucket for like what your filling? and then pull the faucet up? full blast? or hows it all work,,,,, and again is it !!!!OK TO HAVE SOFTENER SALT!!!! in the tap water??? just want to makre sure, thnx

I just unscrewed the aerator and bought an adapter that goes b/t the garden hose adapter and the faucet. Picked it up at a local hardware store. I leave the aerator off all the time.

And yes, I just leave the clean water line in the 5g container, until it is full ( or how every much I need ) I try to make at least 15 gallons at a time.

As for a water softener, can't speak for that since I don't have one.
