Show Me Your Ugliest Acros!!!

...And/or Montis and such. The only condition is that they have to be healthy and 'supposed to look this way'. No skeletons covered in cyano allowed. Here are three of mine.

Don't know what it is but it grows like crabgrass. This is after fragging (note beginnings of new colony where it briefly touched the rear wall)! Main reason I keep it is because my fish absolutely love to hide in it.

Similar to the previous acro in color but grows much more slowly and more knarly. Slimes copiously when it's fragged.

The gauntlet has been thrown. Who will now accept the challenge?

I agree with reef-daddy. I have lots of green/brown acros that I love. I think 64Ivy yours look great. Some even have blue tips.

I agree the good old blue tip stags are nice. I haven't had the heart to get rid of mine and can never get the tips to show up in pics like you have.

I don't have anything productive to contribute to this thread because I don't have any ugly corals:rolleyes:

.....................at least not ones I take pictures of:D

Chris

PS: You should be prohibited form showing that Efflo....it's HIDEOUS and gives me bad dreams every time I see it. I'm sure Attila would argue that point.....

I'm on the other side. I don't like brown at all. I only have one brown coral in my tank and it is a purple tip brown digi. And eventually, that will be out as well. I've bought brown corals but under the pretense they will color up and they always have.

1.) A. anthrocercis (same color for over a year)

2.) A. fastigata (Had over six months and a hint of color is coming in)

LOL 64Ivy! Fun thread! =D

First I wanna say none of your corals are ugly! They have... personality! And uhhh... character! And I think they are great. =)

K, here is my entry. Grown from a small 3" colony, this peice has quickly doubled (almost tripled) in size. It's shape is whacky, it's color is orange and brown and yellow with green and tan polyps, and to top it all off it has some sort of commensal black-feather-duster-tube-worm thing weaving through it. Haha =p

Even the frags I took from it are growing whacky!

I think its funny. =p

Yep, see now THAT'S what I'm talkin' 'bout. So let's not get all sensitive or embarrased about it; everybody has a least one ugly coral. Don't keep hiding it; it's bad for its self esteem. :p

I've got a unusual species of Monti which likely qualifies ... no great color.

That said, Montipora is my favorite, this one came with starfish hitchhikers ... and I don't know I've seen another with this morph/species. Then again, I suppose brown branchy Montipora isn't exactly the most unique ;)

Looking the most colorful I've seen it :lmao:
I need a more accurate photo ..

Saved this from the Monti nudibranchs ... certainly not for color, though.

Man you really love ugly corals don't you 64IVY.

I just think they don't get the props they deserve. I mean, there are so many excellent reef keepers on this board, it's getting pretty commonplace to display the "LE Fushia Lemon Scented Incredible Hulk Milleporas". But something Butt-Ugly? That's special. So check the egos fellas, you know you've got some. Give up your Uglies!

I think thats awesome...I've never seen a digi that color

I'll play, I have had this sucker about 9 months, the color is nothing to write home about but I love the growth shape.

It's not an acro, but a stylo, still I think if Monti fits, this does.

Has that efflo ever colored up in anyone else's tank? ;)
You've had that guy for quite a while...

Just about five years now. I've never known it to achieve any color shift in someone elses tank other than 'darker earthen' or 'lighter earthen'. It's getting to the point (around these parts) that people receiving frags don't even want them to color up. Makes sense I suppose: Who'd want a Purple Monster that went green?

I need a more current pic, in it's light tan coloration :D
[and to my guess, that's a Montipora stellata, has a number of skeletal features that IMO rule out digitata]
