Trying to plan my 155 bow....was gonna do the foam and rock wall, but have lately been getting really interested in going with a minimalist aquascape, but now find myself torn. So I ask you, Reef Central community, to help me decide by showing me some great minimalist aquascapes.

I absolutely loved this one. GREAT example of minimalist

I love that aquascape!! I am going to try to copy it on my new 100 gal. cube build.

Shows that a great looking tank does not necessarily need to be stuffed to the gills with thousands of pounds of rocks and corals.

Its so elegant in its simplicity....that is the kind of thing I am looking to do with my bow....but I also want to hide certain things, like the overflow, returns, CL, etc...so I will be doing a hybrid.

Lets get some more folks.

Not the greatest but I think it is pretty minimalistic!

I think that will look pretty sweet once you get some corals growing on it.

I have my other tank that is stocked over the brim with corals, just waiting for it to finish up a cyano cycle and I should be good. It will be mostly softies and LPS so it should fill the tank out nicely. Thanks for the compliment.

That will look great once it matures a bit. I like the dual columns a lot. What size tank is that? the 37 cube?

Thanks for sharing!

not sure if mine is totally 'minimalist' but the center is very open, and there are cliffs covering the overflows

looks pretty good!..I love tanks with very little hardware showing...pumps, returns, etc.

if you look close you can see some :)

Nice Tank!

Do you have pics of how you hid the CL outlets in the rocks? Did you just plumb the outlet to where you wanted it to be and then stack the rock on top?

Did you use foam/rock to hide the overflows, or is that just carefully placed rock?

Thanks for posting!

Thats actually my 120, just finishing up the cycle. Going to check the levels today and maybe add the corals in. Thanks.

I used PVC structures to cover the overflows, and then used zip ties to attach base rock to the structures. I then applied pond foam between the gaps, and then used epoxy resin (west systems 105b) to affix argonite sand on top of the foam.

The rest of the aquascape is just carefully stacked rocks that are simply in front of the CL outlets... no rocks are resting ON the plumbing, just obscuring it for the most part.

I used around 30lbs of rock per overflow/cliff, and there is another ~75lbs filling in the middle of the tank. So 135lbs of rock in a 220 I guess is somewhat light compared to some standards. I have alot more rock in the refugium....

That is very cool looking. Do you have a build thread going anywhere?
