Show your Yuma's

Picked up another yuma rock yesterday. It was 40 bucks and I've counted 19 on it. Some are small babies.

Ok so last night I brought it out to the light, the vendor and I have almost the exact same lighting except they use Phenoix and I have a hamilton 14k...It is at the bottom of the tank about 32'' under the light....I plan on shorting the daytime lighting by about 3-4 hrs for the next week or so as well..

I do have another one coming from a local shop....It is bright orange skirt with a yellow/green center....

Handsome! I have a local guy who takes very good pictures for the LFS's webpage. I need him to come take a pic of my pink/orange rainbow so I have something to be in the picture game with. We just can't get together atm but I have a frag he needs so hopefully soon enough.

Azurel,

I don't think I've said this elsewhere, but you have a truly beautiful collection. That new one you've got is beautiful. I like the striations.

Here's a couple of mine. Can't find a pic of my pink.

Thanks for the comps...

Those are real nice.....I like that first one it looks like the ends of the skirts are lit with fiber optics....

Wow, those two are hot. I just got in a rock of yuma's that looks similar to the first one in coloration, purple with neon tips but they are babies mostly and strange in body form. Their tentacles are fewer in number atm and they look like jumping jacks with large bulbous tentacles. I'm hoping to fatten them up and grow them up. The biggest is smaller than a quarter.

Azurel, I wanted to share an observation and see what your thought was because you care for alot of Yumas as well. Once in a while a Yuma develops a line from oral cone to tentacle tip. While this observation has been touched on in literature no known reason for this have I noticed in any of my reading. In pondering my observations a couple of things hit me. One is that I never see a Florida with this. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen but non of my Floridas have it. I've never seen a Florida with it. Not even in anyone else's photos. Floridas are soft and pliable. Yumas are rigid and stiff. I've noticed a great increase in the frequency and number of my Yumas that do this. Coinciding with my greatly increased hand feedings of all my Yumas. I was pondering the idea that this line is an expansion joint that comes about when the Yuma increases the size of it's oral disc and adds another row of tentacles. The row seems to split, some of the tentacles seem to twin and appear to seperate and eventually quiet down and assume the color of the rest of their neighbors. Have you come across any explanations from professionals or fellow hobbyists that have any light to shed on this?

Tallinu,

From my personal observations, I have almost always noticed this lighter line occurring more around the time when first introduced, and almost always when placed in an area of high light. When I've observed this white line appearing, it starts from the outside margin and works its way in. Whenever I've seen this, I've taken it as a cue to get them into a lower-light area, and this has consistently caused the line to stop and fade back. Again, this isn't a proven theory either, but I've been able to repeat the results in my tank.

Can't get enough rics it's like crack.

So true! and trading rics is like needle sharing ;)

thanks! i didn't even think twice when i seen it. for this one i made a little table out of carbon fiber rods and eggcrate. i put 3 layers of window screen on top and each week or so ill take one layer off. hope this will help with the light acclimation.

yumas are sure my favorit coral, second are florida rics.

Beautiful as always Madadi, a fine addition to your collection. Speaking on the topic we have touched on of feeding Yumas. My teal based with pink, forest green and orange rainbow caught and ate a Stomatella. I think my eyes were almost as big as dinner plates. I have the poor little guys ear shaped shell as a reminder.

thanks Tallinu. well, i feed my yumas esterina starfish. at least they are good for something and i have an endless supply. :D

I almost got one just like that this past week....I think it is pretty, I got one that has oragne skirt and green center...I will get pic once it colors up.....
