Shrimp & Crab help

I've had some bad luck this past week, I have lost a red fire shrimp and an emerald crab... I have kept inverts for a long time now without any problems... The shrimp died shortly after he began swimming in the water column, which he had never done before... always in the rocks... The Crab just suddenly was upside down and dead... Neither one of these guys had any sign of disease going on... Otherwise my tank parameters are normal... The only thing I have done differently with the tank is dose some Epsom salt according to the articles I was referred here in RC... Thanks for any Ideas you can give me!

Welcome to Reef Central!

When you dose with Epsom Salts all you do is raise the Magnesium and Sulfate levels of your water. It is not a cure.

Do a Magnesium test and let us know what level it is at.

Check all water conditions and test for all things that may be out of whack with the water quality.

Perform a very large water change (80%) as soon as possible, saving some of the old water to perform the above tests.

To learn more about what I wrote above concerning Epsom Salts, please read my 4/28 post in this thread:
