Shrinking Frogspawn

Ive noticed that my frogspawn has been getting smaller, it actually looked a little better today, but still smaller than normal. I checked levels everything fine, I know calcium is important and its ok. Any ideas?

Have you increased your water flow? Sometimes things streatch out more when the water is calmer.

Yes I have a little bit, but it started shrinking before I did that, does it need to be spot fed because looks as if its getting skinnier as well.

Can't hurt to spot feed frogspawn, but I don't think most people have to. I know I never do (I have two types). I probably would get better growth out of them if I did, but if I fed everything in my tank that I could I would spend even more time with my hands in the tank.

Is it a wild or tank raised specimen......how long have you had it.....hiow does the tissue look around the bottom of the polyps?

Im guessing its tank raised because its a small frag I got from Fins. The tissue looks fine, the polyps just appear to be shrinking. Perhaps I will give spot feeding a try. What about placement in the tank, it is at the top?

share a pic if you can...the 2 times I've had problems with frogspawn my alk was way high and another time I had not adequately dissolved Ph sediment and it landed on the heads...seemingly killing the affected heads within a day or so...

Ill see if I can get a pic up, but it actually seems to getting better which is odd considering I didnt change anything?

Mine didn't like the change to higher watt bulbs and shrank up forever. If its new it may be having a hard time adjusting to the lights as Gary said.

well it seems to be going back and forth between looking fine and then not so hot. I have no idea what is goind on. Yesterday I left to go to Gary's and it was fine, then I came home and it shrank again, could something be messing with it? Inhabitants are Maroon clown, engineer goby, various snails and hermits, emrald crab, sally lightfoot crab, 2 peppermint shrimp, Zoas, xenia, and green star polyps. I dont think any of that would effect it but Im a rookie.

The only two that might in my mind are the maroon (wanting to host), or potentially the Sally light foot. I've never had the experience, but I've heard others mention that they pick on coral from time to time. If it had food on it, the peps would harass it.

Clown is doubtful since it never touches any of the coral just roams, started doing it before the sally lightfoot was put in so it is also doubtful, I suppose it could be the peps although they are usually on the bottom. I just hope it makes it through the week since I am in LA all week.

The peppermint shrimp might cause them to temporarily retract if they climb into them (usually only when chasing food in my experience) but I doubt that they would bother a frogspawn enough for it to create issues with the coral. I have 6 peppermint shrimp in my 90 and they all hang out right by the 2 frogspawn colonies that I have.

Do you have, or can you get, a picture of the frogspawn? Is it just shrinking up at random times of the day (mine always do at night and sometimes do if bothered by things in the tank, but always open up again after a little bit)? When you mean shrinking, are you actually seeing tissue recession around where the tentacles attach to the skeleton?

I suppose its possible that it is just retracting, but it looks much worse thant just that, I will try and get a pic up when I get back in town.
