Shy Mandarin?

I have a mandarin in my 75 gallon for about 2 months now but this little guy or gal is still shy. If i sneak up to the tank slowly I see it out in front searching for food but as soon as it notices any movement outside the tank it takes off behind the rocks. Has anyone else had one do this and eventually come out?

Some can be very shy. They usually remain that way.

+1 On the other hand, one of mine is bold to the point of being ridiculous. When he sees me, he comes out and rides the front trying to figure out what I am doing.

I've had mine a year and she's still shy. I have to sneak up real slow if I want to see her.

They are shy. They are less shy as they get older IMO.. if i am watching my tank she will come to the front and flash. Most of the time they do hide behind the rockwork.
