Sicce Syncra pumps. Best return pump I've used yet.

I've been in this hobby a while and have tried a lot of different return pumps. Had the best luck with the Mags but even they turned out to be temperamental from time to time. A close second where the Quiet one pumps. Well after my last pump went south on me I wanted to renew my efforts to find a better, more reliable submersible return pump. My LFS recommended the Sicce Syncra and I posted a thread on this very forum asking for some second opinions on this pump since I hadn't really heard a lot about them.

That was about 4 months ago and I didn't receive much feedback on these pumps. Well, I bought one and it's been running now for 4 months without any problems. I've done no maintenance to this pump, zero. It is dead quiet (really!). It restarts like clock work without a loud "clunk" or any hesitation. This thing is what I've been looking for in a return pump all these years. Just wanted to share this since I know that others might also be looking for the right pump. Look no further. This is it.

I was actually using a Quiet One 3000 before the Syncra 3.0. Before that I was using a Mag 7. These 3 all have very similar flow specs. The Syncra is just a much better pump. The price was also surprisingly reasonable.

Do they run on the quiet side? I have a Mag 9 that is very quiet and a quiet one 4000 on another tank that is very quiet also.

I was thinking of upgrading the mag 9 to the sicce syncra 5.0 with 1,321 gph

I think that the 4,5 models are not as quiet. The people that have 3's love em and claim they cant hear them. I have a 4 (2nd one, returned the first thinking it was faulty) and have tried just about everything to make it as quiet as possible. Still hear it across the room humming. keep the receipt just in case.

I couldn't agree more with you, I also run a Sicce Syncra 3.0 and love it!

I use an askoll/laguna based pump, best on the market IMO and my pump is a 4200 gph unit, I can't hear it over my skimmer sucking air, it's very quiet
Mag drives are very reliable pumps but are loud

This is a good thread. I have two of the 4s, but I have found they get louder with age. Anyone else have this issue?

They are very quiet when first installed, but within about 3-4 months they become louder. Both of mine have had this issue.

I bought a single Syncra 3.0 for my 120g. I have had it for a while (8months?) now and it runs nonstop. Best pump you can buy for smaller tanks IMO. The 120g has two returns and still pumps good flow 5 foot high using a Tee to each return from a single pump. I did a small review here a few months back comparing it to my Tunze which is the same pump.

I am new, and trying to get started on Saltwater. I am going to have a 75 gal tank further down the road, going to set up a nano this week hopefully.
Anyway, I was reading up on the Syncra 3.0 and I was wondering if it has a shut off when the water reaches a certain level in the sump. So what do they mean when they say "9.9 feet shut off"?

Thx,
M

That 9.9 ft will cause to much back pressure ,and the pump can't overcome it.
[the short version]

Also to the OP ,thanks for posting this about the Sicce pumps. I have been curious about them.
