so i noticed a few days ago that a few heads of my candy canes weren't opening to feed at night. i got home today and noticed that they are a distinctly different green. they are definitely fading. not sure why just those heads would do it. any ideas?

have they been in that spot for a while justin, or did you move them? The only reason why ask is the pic shows a "beam" of light that is hitting them directly. I know candy canes don't care where the placement is but it may be to much light for them where they are at. They like all LPS, do not like high flow. By any chance did you change the flow that might be hitting them directly?

I have scanned the pics and see that the rest of the LPS such as the torch, blasto, meteor shower, and elegance are doing fine. The softies and SPS are doing fine as well. I would leave them be for now and check them for the next few days. Then see if they return to "normal". If in a few days they dont return to "normal", I would change placement.

Hope all is well in the family. Send our love to your beautiful wife and kids!

hans!! glad to see your still around!

nope haven't moved them. they have been there since they were a two head bunch, but one thing i thought of is i have had a few frags flying around. a green monti cap fell that direction, but not sure if it hit on the way down. wondering if they just got burned by another coral.

i knew someone would ask!!! i don't know i eliminated the water parameter based on the fact that only 4 heads out of 20 looked bad. maybe that is a bad assumption, but i would think if they all were drinking bad water they would all look bad.

i will try to test.

glad to see you are lurking around arnie!

So how are they doing now? If they are still not doing well you could always frag them off the colony and try to keep it from spreading to the others. Hans and Arnie nice to see you guys on here, hope all is well with both of you and your families.

well this morning a few of the heads had their tentacles starting to protrude so hopefully this is a sign that they want to recover. still leaning towards coral on coral stinging.

Well that is a great sign then. Typically in a colony, they wont "sting" each other per say. Its rare since they have to really on each other within the colony for food. Just see how it goes and glad you didn't panic. They should rebound nicely in which it looks like they already are. Say hi to the family from us!

Justin, that is great they are starting to come back. It is very possible that one of them other corals drifting around touched them.

yeah i really need to stick some of my corals better. that damn urchin seems to push em around a lot
