sick cichlids

I inherited a 55 gallon aquarium the other day.
It had 2 cichlids and 2 large goldfish type fish, as well as a 2 smaller fish and a silvery catfish type fish.

I transfered the aquarium to my house and immediately noticed one of the cichlids was staying up near the surface, severly lethargic, and lookign for all the world like he was going to die.

He didn't die but his eye got milky and maybe puffy. The other fish appeared ok.
Then the goldfish started looking bleached out.
I bought a Jungle Doctor fungus treatment and then did a partial water change. I also got a tester kit which showed my mintrates to be super high.

Today I noticed that the second cichlid is also getting a milky eye.
I have now quarentined the two of them in a bucket and applied the fungus removal treatment again.

I am doing a full water change as we speak to try and reduce the nitrate levels in my water.

Does anyone have any advice. I'm new to all of this.
First things first is to clearly remove the nitrates from the water.

The second thing is to try and cure the two clearly sick cichlids. I wish I could better diagnose them. I am unsure if they have a funga or bacterial infection.

I don't even know how long I can safely keep them in the bucket.
They will both still eat but the one who has been sicker longer worries me.
I keep thinking I'm going to wake up to see him floating.
