sick clown

I have a gold stripe clown that has a very bad case of ich in my reef tank, I was wondering if its ok to fresh water dip a clown? I know they have a special coating. I have to do something he is the last fish I have left.

Move him to QT/Hospital tank and bring the specific gravity down to 1.009 over a period of several days, and maintain it there for at least 4 weeks after the last visible signs of the parasite.

Freshwater dips will often not do much to kill Cryptocaryon Irritans (marine ich.) When a fish has Ich, it produces a thicker mucus coat, which means that a FW dip will only reach a small percentage of the parasites. This all just adds up to a bunch of stress on your fish with not a lot of benefit. Hyposalinity (1.009) and Copper are the only proven treatments for Ich. IMO Hyposalinity is the less stressful of the two for the fish.

My Ocellaris pair is in Hyposalinity as we speak recovering from a parasitic infection of some kind, and while it's only about two weeks in they are showing marked improvement (hopefully permanently, but who knows). Hypo is my personal treatment of choice in this case, but Cupramine (Copper) is certainly another option.

Let me look up an article on Ich that someone linked me when my fish came down sick...it might be helpful.
