sick clowns

Well, either the little guy brought something in with him or some macro someone gave me had some nasties on it. I'd like to blame someone else but it's probably my fault for not adequately QTing the new little guy.

He looks terrible. His right gill cover looks partially detatched on the bottom and is very bloody. I noticed 2 days ago that it looked "wrong" and that he was breathing rapidly. I couldn't really see anything yesterday as he spent his time in the anemone and wouldn't show me anything.

Today it looks really bad.

The female has what looks like a parasite or an ulcer on her side. The Coral beauty also has 2 of these spots on her body. I wasn't able to get a picture of her spot with all the water spots on the tank. I will try again and hopefully get a pic I can post. There is also a peppermint who likes to clean in case it is external parasites.

It could possibly be aggression as the CB seems pretty aggressive toward the clowns, which I've not heard of before but OT here.

The yellow tang looks fine as do the 2 clowns in the sump.

I did manage to capture the 2 sick clowns from the display and they are in a hospital tank right now. No filtration yet.

Should I set up a quick FW dip and see if the spot falls off of her?

Any other suggestions or diagnoses are welcome. I am also posting to diseases forum.

Here is a picture of his injured/sick gill cover.

tank is dosed and I added a powerhead for circulation/aeration. Hopefully 50% daily water changes will keep up with them.

They never didn't slow down their eating at all up until I pulled them. I'll post if their eating changes tomorrow.

good luck with them man. Clarkiis are one of my favorites. If they keep eating I am sure you will be ok.

They look about the same. The litle guy who looks physically worse is eating better and not quite as lethargic in the hospital as the big girl is. He is eating some but she shows little/no interest. Hopefully they'll be doing better after the water change and the half meds on the second day of treatment. She is starting to come to the surface some which also really worries me. I think I might start treating for brook too. I know it's not great to use formalin with an open wound but the risk of losing these guys has me willing to try just about anything.

I did not see any signs of brook from your pic. Can you give me a shot of her side (close up). What is respiratory rate/min?

I would stay off Formalin for now, IMHO.

Brook clowns do not eat at all after three days.

sorry to hear about this dan :( I was considering adding my baby to the reef. looks so healthy.

I had a problem with my first maroon after i had her three weeks she developed white funk on her mouth, then started getting lethargic and by days end wasent eating.
next day she was only hanging out at the top of the aquarium and breathing heavy. her cheeks started to swell, in the same day there were holes thru her fins. I treated this with two tabs of maracyn 2 the first day, then 1 tab a day for the rest of the treatment. shes very alive and well, i kept her in qt after the treatment for 3 additional weeks

as for qt water changes, i used a turkey baster to suck out uneaten food and poop, and did it once a day.. filling a half gal jug. id then take a half gal of water from main tank to replace it. I dident have a biofilter then...

i got the best advice i could from leebeca in the disease forum, she should hopefully chime in and take her advice shes a pro
