Can anyone help with this??
In the last week, I have lost one frag, and 3 others are not doing so well. Luckily, they are frags- or unluckily. I don’t know the name of the sps that I lost, but I do have before and after pictures of him. He died in under 2 days- didn’t even notice it. My blue tort is slowly turning to white, starting at the base. This has been progressing for about a week. My Stylophora that I got at the frag swap seems to be sloughing or flaking away. This has been a slow process since 2-3 days after the swap- almost 2 weeks duration. The last one that is notably affected by something is my toadstool. He has not opened or even feed in about 3 days. Also, there are a few zoa frags that have not opened since I got them which was one week before the swap- about 3 weeks ago. My birdsnest frag’s tips were not well a few weeks ago, but I moved him and he’s doing fine now.
Those are the frags that are not doing well. Everything else seems to be fine and growing. Noticed a few new polyps yesterday and my fine grape coral slit over the last week.
Water parameters as of jan 29
30% Water change (jan 17), trates- 0ppm, Ca- 440-460ppm, ammonia- 0, trites -0ppm, pH- 8.2, specific gravity-1.024. don’t check temp.
Set up
It is a 29 gallon display with a 15 gallon sump. 4-22w T5s (2 actinics and 2 10K), lights are on for 12.5 hours/ day. Skimmer (forgot the brand last cleaned 8/07). Using a Koralia 2 (400+gph- just changed at the swap). Using a large 300 micron sock and bio balls for filtration. There seem to be excess detritus- is settled at the bottom of the sump and some floats on top of the water. Will wash or replace sock this week.
Stock
I have a 2 in sand bed 40+ lbs live rock. 20+ different coral frags (zoas, sps, and lps). A gold stripped maroon clownfish, Dwarf angel (cherub- has never nipped or bothered any coral- just the clown at times) and a small green chromis. Will be swapping the clown and angel for a pair of percula clowns and a crocea clam soon. Several blug legged crabs and snails. A few tiny serpent stars, asterina stars (I am bad at spelling, but the really little white ones), and a lazy brittle star. Several small feather dusters.
Feed
KentMarine coral excel daily and frozen twice weekly.
What should I do about the sick corals??? I have looked at the thread started by Fishdoc for sps. Have not been able to see any AEFW or red bugs. Should I just dip in lugols???? Or do a freshwater dip first??? And any good suggestions as to how to catch my angel?? He is fast.
