OK, I finally got a pic of my flame angel. The LFS says its a fungas and is having me do 1 hour Formalin Dips each day for a week. Everything else in the tank seems fine. What is the cause of this?

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Yes its lips and the eye. The white stuff around his lips and eye. The formulin dips are not working. Now I have been informed by another person at the same LFS not to do the formalin dips, but to use Pimafix and Melafix in my tank, that it will rid the Fungus completely ie (Malfungus) is what he called it. He also said it was good for the entire tank, and will not harm any fish, coral or inverts.

Anybody use these products before in their tank?

Ok first, how long have you had the tank?

Angels like a flame do well in established tanks becuase they like to pick on things all day long to eat. To me it looks like he picking at the rocks and causing mouth damage or he has lymphocystis virus.

Fungus is not a common problem in saltwater fish. The two products that you listed are like natural type;homeopathic remedies. I would not use it in your main tank, nor personally have found much success with something like that. I do know if you use it in your main tank your skimmer will go crazy.

The formalin dips are probably stressing the little guy out. I dont see that you should be using formalin becuase that would nto be a treatment for any leasions or mouth problems; more for parasites.

Anythhing difffernt today with the fish?

This is some white crap that started on his eye, and now has moved above his mouth, like a white mustache. He doesnt seem stressed when moving him at all. He gently lays in my hand from one tank to the next. I have been told by several this is a fungas, not parasites. I dont see any leasions either. Just this white milky stuff on the one eye and above his lips.

Look up Lymphocystis virus. It could be that. It shows up on the fish as white cotton like patches on fins or growths around the mouth.

Fungus is not common in saltwater, bacterial infections are but not so much when it comes to fungus.

how long have you had the tank? and the fish?

2 months on tank, 2 weeks on fish.

It does not look like Lymphocystis virus, and if it was this fish is dead meat!! It states there isnt a cure for this virus, but also states that this virus forms on the fins and body, not the eye or mouth. All the diagrams show on the fins of each fish, again it is not curable, and will only go away in time. However again I dont beleive it is this!!

As you can see in my picture, the fins are not covered with this large white/pinkish cells like lymphocyctis virus, as a matter of fact, they are deteriorating due to a fungus of somekind

actually, lymph appears on the fins AND can appear on the mouth too, it was a suggestion to start with.

He does have some type of infection, becuase his tail fin also appears frayed from the pic.
You can believe what you want but I am telling you its probably a bacterial infection and not a fungus.

You could start with a gram negative antibotic, becuase most bacteria in Saltwater fish are gram negative, and not gram positive. ie; mouth rot/tail rot.

But if you believe its a fungus then I am not sure how to help as more fresh and brackish fish deal with fungi.

It is a bacterial infection. You should treat it with antibiotics in a quarantine tank. Never use medications in your main tank.

Your tank is really not established enough to have tried an angel. I would also say a 24 is too small as well. It is too small for a pair of maroons as well, although they will not have as much of an issue with the tank size as the angel.
