Had a 24g tank running for 2 years, jawfish for 1 year, yellow with blue spots. Have had no change in the livestock for a year, one clown, one small regal tang (yes I know about your opinions of tangs in small tanks), one 6 line wrasse, 2 pepermint shrimp. The water is Catalina water, 5g changed every other week, temp is 78 degrees/consistently, all levels are right on, no amonia, no nitrates/ites. In the last week the jawfish has stopped eating, used to be first in line for the food, and is aggressivly tring to jump out, non-stop. He never tried to jump, at least when I was around 4-6 hours a day, tank on desk in my home office (fyi no change in exterior surroundings or light/sound). Tank is grounded, checked water with volt meter, no stray voltage. None of the other fish act aggressivly towards him, yet his rear tail is half gone, and no signs of rot or anything eating it. His color is ok. He use to be scared of me when I cleaned the tank, ran for his big cave he made, now as soon as I go to change the water, the little ##$%! almost jumped out 2 seconds after I opened the lid. So in short his behavior is a complete 180 from the last year. Is there anything I could be missing. In the last month I was throwing a calcium block in the sump and wonder if that is effecting him. Everything else in the tank is a-ok, the shrimp and anenome are doing great. The other fish are normal and eating. Any ideas on what is causing his downward spiral would be helpful, I'd hate to loose this guy.
