Sick leather

I have a finger leather that up until a few days ago had been doing wonderfully. While i was doing a water change I noticed that something looked off...there are some white sores..and shard like things sticking out of them...almost like small shards of glass. I haven't been able to find anything in my coral disease book here...so I'm hoping one of you can help me out with some ideas so I can start to treat the poor thing

It is in quarantine, and pretty ****ed about it.

Is it getting ready to shed maybe? A pic would help, if possible.

I had a cabbage that used to spit out the shard things for a couple of days, then back to normal. I never really found out why, so I'm along for the ride.
