just started a 29 gal reef tank and inserted my cleen up crew i could not resist geting this clam he has great colors and was cheep although i am not sure if he should be in their if you know plees tell me

Clams should not be added to new tanks. I am guessing this one will die. Wait for 6 months to a year to try again. good luck.

Please research an animal before purchasing it..How new is a new tank..and clams do need some specialized care you really should learn to be a bit patient and do some research. Return or give away the clam to someone with an established tank so it has a chance.

too young. also you need correct calcium levels, most often times HIGH lighting, good flow, enough nutrients in water. is the clam gaping? does it react to your hand going under the light for a second?

healthy clams will react to the sudden decrease in light, but ya you definitely should have done research before purchasing this animal. we NEED to know what your lights are as well.

They are like 120 maby and are about 6 inches from the water and the clam is probably 15 inches from the light do you think I should give it back to the owner because he told me it is great for new systems

What kind of clam are we talkin about here? Gigas? Maxima? CLEANER? The reason I ask is because when you mentioned a clam included with a new clean up crew, the first thing I thought of was the regular old eating type clam that some folks toss in their tank as a 'cleaner'. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://cn1.kaboodle.com/hi/img/c/0/0/68/5/AAAADOQ1rS0AAAAAAGhVxg.jpg%3Fv%3D1250484422000&imgrefurl=http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/cleaner-clam-mercenaria-mercenaria&h=199&w=300&sz=19&tbnid=7LQPN8Y3ncy5eM:&tbnh=77&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcleaner%2Bclam&zoom=1&q=cleaner+clam&hl=en&usg=__uvhRKXEx-5LU1KYrMtdHzO6ji6g=&sa=X&ei=eMHvTNG5L4O8lQertsy1Dw&sqi=2&ved=0CC4Q9QEwAw

Edit: If that's not what you have, then get it out and good luck.

GREAT color to you may be different to someone else. lol

IE: GREAT COLOR CLAM...

I thought if the clam was over 3" then it wasn't as reliant on phyto and moreso just light and fish waste. They are great Nitrate consumers too...I have 2 purple croceas that were put in my tank early and they were okay...
