Tank is 250 gal...
tested today @
Nitrates: 0, Ammonia: 0, Nitrites: 0
Ph is 8.3, temp 79°, salinity 1.023
Nothing has changed except for an addition of Narrsarius snails and small brown serpent star yesterday... Typical reef setup....

We've had the Sohal for about 18 months with no problems!

Was also thinking it could be just stress for some reason but want to rule out anything serious. I have never seen this patching on the tail end of a fish. He seems perfectly healthy and ate like a glutton as usual. I feed a mix of pellets for food one for carnivore and the other for hebavores... But I have fed this mx since I have had him with no problems.

Any Ideas?

My emperor had blotches like that too until I put UV light in. Maybe its something in the water that is stressing it out.

I have noticed twice where he has swooped down to slide his back across the sand... I am starting to think it could be a bug....

Makes me real mad b/c he was fine yesterday and then I added the narsarius snails and the little serpent and now this...

They don't that when they have ich or another parasite in their gills, maybe flukes.

Maybe its one of those that is irritation him and making him stressed. Do you have a UV on your tank?

It doesnt fit the typical fluke pattern though... this is not a speck... its a pattern.. there are no visible spots on him at all.. just the blotching just like I do when I drink whiskey... LOL. Also I dont see the rapid breathing... I dunno.

You don't see flukes on the body though. They are usually inside the gills and sometimes on the eyes. It could be anything else too but I'm just saying that it might be fluke because fish rub on the sand on occasion when they have ich or flukes. Its something in their gills that is bothering them.

Is it breathing faster than usual?

I dunno what is wrong with him I guess..... We shall see in the morning what his condition is... Before the lights went off I counldnt even tell these blotches were there without getting right up close and looking at him.. Still seems to be stress related, possibly diet, time will tell.

I should be able to see something on the gill area though. Either in or on the edge. There should be more obvious sign such as breathing fast or something to give that away, and theres not.
