sickly yuma

We're not a 100% sure yet about this being a yuma, but we're highly suspecting it to be...

About 2 months ago we got this sickly yuma from country max, i didn't know half as much as I do now, and probably wouldn't have gotten it if I did..

From the moment we got it the yuma looked lioke the picture:

it's mouth is open very wide and it's shrunken.. kinda.

We've placed it out of the light/flow.. and now it seems to be detaching from the rock a bit (curling up).

Is there any hope this thing will survive?

What could i do to improve the odds?

Maybe more it out in a little more light to see if it opens up some more and make sure all your water params are in check and stable. At this point you really have nothing to lose.

Yes it is a yuma.

Gaping mouth is a real bad sign, I would put 98% of yumas that show those sisns eventually die. Like lace said though check parameters and maybe try a bit more light and possiably more flow to help keep it clean from making to much slime.......

my parameters are great.. 0 amonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates.
phosphates are <0.1 (could be lower..)
temp is 78.5-79.5
lighting is 130 watt PC on 29 gallon tank

salinity is 1.024-1.025

I dont really want to move it again,... have been doing that a lot to see if it'd react better on any other location.. no improvements yet...

i guess it's a goner :-(

Put it out straight in the light and start moving up near the surface. The only yuma I currently have is in my 20H about 5'' from the surface of the water, directly underneath 130watt pc lighting and it could take more if I had it. Your lighting is on the low side, I would say.

I agree, if it is curling up and sliming I'd get it out in the light. Some of them like more light than others. Have you ever tried to target feed it with some phyto or cyclopeeze? Might be worth a try.

Alright, i'll move it again later today, but it didn't improve at all when i got it in the light to begin with...

I did try spot-feeding it.. several times with several different kinds of food (baby brine, phythoplankton, mysis)

well... i think that's about it for that yuma... its mouth was WIDE open today.. even more than before... and it looks like CRAP...

how long can the process be for it to die? should i take it out of my tank and kill it humanely?
