Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG (no pictures)

i ask because i like two things about it, it is a bit cheaper than the cannon, and it goes up to f/45 vs the cannons f/32

I think the Sigma 150mm macro gets a better rating than the 105mm but research around and see for certain.

I think the Canon is a much better lens than the Sigma 105mm.
-First, I don't think the Sigma 105mm has an internal-focusing element. Meaning, the front element will extend/retract as you focus which I personally can't stand.
-The F/45 doesn't do anything for me. You will get a little better DOF but you will loose sharpness due to refraction at that aperture...I personally prefer a sharper picture.
-The Sigma will focus slower/louder than the Canon since it lacks an ultra-sonic focusing motor (called HSM for Sigma's).
-The Sigma 105mm doesn't have full-time manual focus, which I find annoying.

The Sigma 150mm is a completely different animal and will give the Canon a run for the money, but the 105mm falls short IMO. Oh, and the Canon will have better resale value. That should be enough :)

Thanks, I am a cannon guy myself, so prolly wasn't gonna go sigma, I also looked at the 150mm but I think I will end up with the cannon.

The one thing you will HATE on the sigma is the fact that the front element extends and retracts, like Blazer88 said. Other than that it's a good lense.
