Signal Goby

I am looking for a fish to help keep my sandbed clean. I want to get a smaller goby, possibly a signal goby (Signigobius biocellatus). Please post your experiences with this fish and other gobies, do they keep your sandbed clean? Have they messed with any shrimp (I have sexy shrimp)?

Very poor track record in captivity with this fish. Generally come in to LFS and on-line stores in poor shape. Generally little can be done to save these once it finally get's in the hands of the customer. Those that have had success with these generally have live sand with lots of critters in it, and due spot feeding with cyclopeeze and other small food items. Generally these are in tanks by themselves, or with other non-aggressive eaters.

If you do attempt to do this, and are willing to do the above things, I suggest trying to get a pair. Watching them cruise together and feed together is one of the neatest things you can see. Even better than goby and pistol shrimp combo in my opinion.

Yeah that is what I have been hearing from a guy in my local club. I didn't realize that they were that touchy but haven't done much research on them yet either. Any suggestions on other cool, small gobies that could clean my sand bed and are less temperamental?

My Amblygobius rainfordi doesn't keep my sandbed spotless (since he's 1.5" and I have an ~900in^2 sandbed), but he enjoys sifting it when no one's looking.

A guilty pleasure. :)

I have had some luck keeping them in nano tanks, but it was a lot of work. I finally got them trained to the fact that I was putting food in the sand for them and they would come eat right after I added food and eventually started eating out of the pipet I used to put food in the sand. I highly suggest you use some of the anti parasite food and bottom dwellers are prone to parasites. Mine were very skinny even though I was feeding them several times a day on cyclopeze, fortified brine amd mysis. When I mixed a little of the anti parasite food in there they plumped up. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewI...ry-Pellets-Saltwater-Small_Sized~vendor~.html
I had them for 9 month to a year when I moved them to my well established 240 where they promptly starved. :-( Over all I would say don't buy them. It is a shame they don't do well as they are really cool fish.
