Silica sand for Mangroves

I wanted to add a 100 gal rubbermaid mangrove fuge to my reef system but don't want to spend on aragonite sand (and there's no southdown to be found around here) Any problem if I use regular (silica sand).

Thanks,

Andy

Silica sand will work, it just won't have any of the pH, calcium support benefits of aragonite.

I agree. I've had mangrove saplings do well in silica sand. I know others have had great success in oolitic sands from UT and aragonite based stuff we have lots of in the hobby. Just beware the usual silica issues (rinse rinse rinse) and they should be happy.
