This may seem like a silly question but here goes. How long does it take, in general, for a sponge filters to be colonized with bacteria to support fish?
In preparing to potentially relocate my tank almost 900 miles, it was suggested that I possibly run an air pump with sponge filters, and heaters. The fish are going into a fish only holding tank for a few weeks until the tank equalizes. My thoughts are to run the sponge filters in this temporarily. I have multiple sponge filters from my freshwater breeding days. Or I have the Bio-wheel Penguin filters.
Any thoughts on the colonization or moving plans.
