Ive been in vegas all week and made my way to the Silverton to see their new 117,000g system. I was not pleased with the health of their livestock. There were about 100 blue tangs that looked very sick. IE bad color, obvious skin conditions etc. The sharks and rays looked good and some of the other larger fish appeared to be doing well. But the small fish looked very rugged. The few yellow tangs looked to be on the edge of death so did the clowns that I saw. Overall the system is very impressive. I got a short tour of the back end of the system. They would not let me take pics of the filtration area......Bummer.......But they are using a wet/dry with ozone and skimmers. For the novice you would be in awe. If you have even a little knowledge of SW systems you would have some major questions. This system could be AWSOME with the right care. It just hurts to see livestock looking so bad. I didn't say too much while there because I wanted too see as much as possible. They said the head Aquarist has been off for the last month for a new baby. I hope when he gets back the problems will be rectified. I don't have a data cable for my laptop so I'll post pics when I get back on friday. I'm lining up a tour of the Mirage system on Thurs. I hope pics will follow for that too.

Just to compare I have a blue tang in my 50g system. Her color is great, eats like a pig and is the bully of my system. When I got her she was about 2 inches. In 4 months she has grown about an inch and shows the others who is boss. She has a deep blue and yellow color and swims freely. The ones at the Silverton are fat but move slow, washed out color, peeling skin, swimming slow, you know the drill. The yellows and Angels were just as bad.

Iwent to the Mandaly Bay Reef Shark display today. Bummer. The lights suck, you can't see anything. Good luck taking pics. They are advertising a Carribian Reef system. Well my 50g at home has more Carribian life than this 1.6 million g display. When I asked the speaker why they had no live coral she said " Oh no, you can't keep live coral in a captive system".......UMMM........Yeah......Right!
