Simple question about gurgling coming from sump.

I recently purchased a 75 rr all glass with corner overflow. The stand pipe it came with is similar to a durso. The water in the over flow is constantly going up and down. I assume that is to release some kind of back pressure in the line. It goes through a cycle of about 10 seconds. Starting the cycle it gurgles in the sump for 9 of the 10 seconds the finally the water level in the corner over flow burps the line. Talk about annoying. I will post some pics if necessary. If you just have some links to some good post that would be great too. Thanks alot for helping me. Oh and i get a constant trickling noise from my over flow.

Yeah, I had the same on m y 75 rr aga tank. What return pump are you using. That could be to much for the overvlow.

Also, I opened the hole at the top of the standpipe a little and fed about 2 feet of rigid tubing down it. The tubing sticks up out of the pipe about 3". This will give more airflow and hopefully stop the gurgling.

Eventually mine stopped make the gurgling and gushing down the pipe.

Hope that helps.

I always keep drilling small holes in the end cap until it equalizes and the gurgling stops. Hope this helps.

If more/bigger holes in the top of the standpipe doesnt help try dialing back your return pump. I was trying to push to much water through mine and had the same gurgling affect you guys are decsribing. On the advice of some fellow RC members I throttled back the pump and BINGO! That did the trick.

I made a way for the air to escape the pipe before it gurgled. I placed a T in the drain line right at the water level in the sump (half in half out) I had one end go down under the water and the other end sideways with a cap. I drilled a hole in the cap and it allows the air to escape before going under the water. I get a ton of air coming out that little hole, probably enough to act as a fan over my sump.
