Simple RO/DI question

I have a question regarding the drain tube: The typhoon III comes with a saddle clamp for a 1.5" drain. Where I have the unit in the basement, the closest drain is a 4" main drain. Can I just drill a hole in that,, insert the tube, and then seal it with silicone?

Or does anyone know of a saddle clamp for a 4" drain?

Is there a trap below where you want to tap in. If not, sewer gas will back up into your unit I would think. I just drain mine in the laundry tub.

You could run the waste water into the laundry tub, or you could also run it into the same drain that the laundry waste water drains into. That's what I do.

It's currently in the basement up near the ceiling, right next to a 4" drain. there's no other floor drain or laundry tub around.

There's no sink or anything nearby? How about smaller diameter drain pipes that connect up to the 4" pipe? You can buy a longer length of RO tubing from Home depot and run it to where you need it.

i purposely put my RODI unit close to the laundry sink so i had a supply (laundry faucet) and a drain. plus, i did not want to semi-permanently install it becasue i am moving sometime this summer...

but yeah, use extra lengths of the tubing and run it to where it can drain.

do you have any drain tiles anywhere?

I thought about that. but I wanted the unit near my water collecting and mixing bins. I think I might have to just get longer drain tubing. if I use 1/4" tubing, would that be too much resistance back on the unit? I will probably get 3/8" tubing and have the 1/4" drain into that.

thanks for all your help.

It you cut and T off the waste line, make sure that you have a p trap on your line just too be safe. It's a simple pvc conection. Your hardware store probably sells a 4 " pipe with a 1.5 " T. Get a 1.5" p trap then attach your line to it.
