Simulate a gel filter using white balance?

Hi,

I need to duplicate a photographic technique used by a researcher where they filmed a fish using Ektachrome under ultraviolet light shooting through a Kodak Wratten #21 filter (orange).
I have a Nikon D300. It seems to me that I should be able to duplicate the effect of a filter like that by adjusting the white balance. Any thoughts? The filter gels are close to $100, so I'm trying to find a work around.
I don't care about the color rendition, I'm just trying to increase the contrast in the image. Basically, the technique uses Fluorescein dye to mark skin lesions on fish. The UV light causes the dye to fluoresce, but the fish's body auto-fluoresces at a similar wavelength and that needs to be filtered out.

Thanks,

Jay

p.s. - yeah I know this is probably more appropriate for a Nikon forum, but I thought I'd ask fish people first....
