I found this stuff with my metal detector this past weekend. I had no idea what it was, so I posted some pics online, and it turns out this is the brass hardware from a Civil War Saber Belt. I have most of the pieces except for the eagle belt plate...which is by far the most coveted. I am headed back on Friday to hopefully find it. The photo below it is for reference of the pieces that I found.

That's awesome man. I collect civil war items, although it's mostly coins and confederate notes at this point. The item I've always wanted is a Confederate cavalry officer's saber...but I've never seen them anywhere close to be a reasonable price or condition.

A few months ago a guy in OH listed a "sword" on craiglist that he found in his grandfather's attic. He listed it for $100, and as soon as I saw it, I recognized it as a Cavalry Saber. I emailed and called him probably a dozen times that day, but got no response. I am guessing others recognized it as well and blew up his cell with calls haha, and he wised up to what he really had. It's too bad though, it was in great shape.

I collect CW items and coins as well. I have several dug bullets and a few buttons. This site I am digging at will hopefulyl add my first belt plate. Stay tuned for updates!

My cousin's husband bought a sword at a yard sale that some guy had used as a weed whacker for decades. Was just unbelievable. It's a very plain sword, so probably an NCO sword, but still was a really great deal for the $20 or something that he paid for it. Why does everyone else have stories like this but I don't, and I'm looking for it!
