Single halide aquariums

Cool well I guess that's what I need to do. What's the rail type thing you have them on? Do they run pretty hot? One more ? lol. If you mounted them perpendicular would they have better coverage? or are they going to be the same either way?

I am going to bring this thread back up to the top! I am in the search for a new bulb. I have a cheap 14k 400w bulb , pulseright brand I believe. It is too yellow for me. I only have a 27w actinic which isn't doing much. I'd like to see some 400w metal halide bulbs with no actinics.

Page 4 at the bottom of page is my tank. Single 400w 10k xm in a lumenarc III reflector. Bulb is about 11" from surface of water.

Sorry, didn't see this before. It's actually a modified Trek bike mounting system ;) Yes, they are pretty warm, but it doesn't heat up the water too much. I believe the coverage is pretty much a good square area, so I don't think changing the mounting would have any significant impact.
