sinularia sp. coral turning brown and disintergrating

Can anyone help me? I have a 'mouse ear' coral, which with a bit of digging I have identified as a Sinularia species. It's turning brown, shrivelled up, and now it's starting to disintergrate. Here's a picture.

also, as it's disintergrating does that mean it might be leaching ammonia into the tank? My purple fire fish is hiding and he never hides. He came out for food though and looks healthy enough though.

uh oh... should I bin it? tested my nitrites and they are high

I binned it, and it smelt really bad so I think I did the right thing.

Yeah it was just rotting in your tank from the looks of it.
