Siphon overflow box to sump

I am just trying to figure out what stops the siphon from the overflow box when the power goes out? It seems like if there is no power, your return pump goes off--but the siphon keeps bringing water down to the sump...this seems like the recipe for disaster. What do you think?

the overflow box should only be deep enough in the water to keep a decent amount of flow you should leave enough room in the sump so when the electric goes off the sump will simple take the excess water until the siphon stops

It will only drain to the level of the overflow weir. Just like an internal overflow.
