six-line GONE

so i have minimal rock work in my tank and i havent spotted my six-line in two days...i gave the benefit of the doubt for the first one saying, "okay, he's just hiding out" but today i become a little concerned, i lifted the rock work, nothing but a few bristleworms..i cannot find a body, NOTHING..the only thing looking a little funny was this clear blueish material that was extremely tiny, on top of my sand, but didnt appear to be anything concerning, any ideas of what happened?

These fish can get into some pretty tight spots. Don't discount that it might be tucked into a crevice somewhere. I've had them hide for a few days and suddenly reappear. Short of that, it may have jumped if you have any open areas. Check your overflow if you have one. The clear blue material you mention might be the mucous cocoon that these wrasses spin at night. Not sure on the color as most of these are a clear whitish substance.

mine kept disappearing. I found out that it somehow was jumping INTO the HOT refugium, an Ecosystem 40. I'd take it out, and it would end up back in the fuge. there was no way it was getting sucked up in the tube, it was jumping. sometimes it would be in the fuge and end up back in the tank. then one day, it was on the floor. :( is it possible yours jumped out? do you have a fuge?

yea, im pretty sure i checked most rockwork though, lfs owner said it may have burrowed in sand?? idk never heard that and as far a fuge, i dont have one but i had one on the 75reef and same thing with mine! but i have no open areas for it to make it out, i searched all around the tank, 3 days now, nothing...im getting worried.

Yeah 6 lines are tricky, i just got one last week also and I came home and couldnt find him, i searched for like half an hour and found him hiding in the smallest hole that i didnt even know existed. So just make sure you check your rock work real well.

yea i have been checking, lifting rock up nothing, something has to give i mean, i searched the ground...nothing and he would have to be incredible to make it out bc i only have a tiny opening by the heater cord...the ONLY 2 things im thinking is 1. he got eaten...or 2. he jumped and maybe my cat got to him? im all out of ideas idk where the heck he went.

I was just going to ask if you have a pet. You really think your cat can resist a fat fish floppy around on the floor?
You'd also be amazed at how far these fish can make it if they get out of the tank.

i figured it out today, i had found an insanely cheap hawkfish at the lfs today, pretty small, and i couldnt resist brought him home, acclimated and all, and 10 min later the scopas was picking at him, figured it was the "new fish" greeting and whatnot so i let it slide, about 4 hours later....dead. so im thinking the six line went the same way... idk if anyone on this forum site has ever heard about my scopas but he is a rare specimen. he is the biggest SOB ive ever seen...he attacks anything he sees thats not older than he is...this is the entire reason he is in my 30 in the first place, he killed a maroon clown and a yellow tang in my 75 reef. i took him out "temporarily" and here we are 1 1/2 years later...so i will make alot of you happy, wednesday, he is going to tyhe lfs for good, im taking the scopas out for good.

yeah, im kind of happy too...he has just gotten to the point where i think if i threw a damn trigger in there, he could take it out hes been THAT BAD..so enough is enough...plus it will help the bioload out a ton, all around a good move IMO.

Yeah and then you can add more smaller fish. I have seen a few 30G tanks that are stocked very nicely with lots of small fish. You get all kinds of color and movement if its done right.

Let us know what you get.
