Sixline Wrasse

I have had a pair of sixline in my tank for about 6 months now. Well the female is laying eggs once every 2 weeks or so. I haven't the slightest idea of how to even think of raising the eggs, anyone have any experience with raising wrasse? I am trying to see where she is laying the eggs but with no luck... I will try and get a good picture of her.... she get sooooo fat.

I would expect she would be broad casting the eggs, and if you cant catch some eggs you can try to rear them from there, dont think youll find much info around on them or any wrasse.

this fish does not "lay" eggs, they spawn in the open water column. Also the interval you mention does not at all match with my oveservations on wrasses.

P.hexataenia (1,2) spawns every 2-3 days in my tank - always in the strong current and alsways during the blue light phase short before the light gets off. , Bodianus bimaculatus (1,1) spwans every day in the late afternoon with the light still on.

maybe I seem to only notice her being so fat once every week or two... but the smaller of the two wrasse has a fatter belly every now and then. I am sorry I am not an expert on wrasse reproduction I wasnt looking to get flamed I was posting to learn more... I guess I should get my Phd in reproduction of fish before I post in here again so I dont anger mr Schmiedel.

I would love to get a picture but the smaller ones belly becomes huge and you can see redish orange thing poking out near her anal fin.... like I said sorry I am not more educated in this but it isnt that she is just eating ... I have had several other people in the hobby see it and they all agree.

I see,getting plump and then suddenly slim...
You should somehow screen overflow water looking for eggs.
IÃ"šÃ‚´m sure many pelagic spawners are producing eggs in peopleÃ"šÃ‚´s tanks and nobody just find out.

yes exactly... she is getting VERY VERY fat.... but way below where her stomach is and then the next morning she is normal. there is an obvious difference between fat from eating and carrying what she is carrying.

I'd like to second this point. Also note that, being from Belgium, english may not be Mr. Schmiedel's first language.

I agree with Luis, you should try to screen your overflow or find some other means of capturing eggs to verify your suspicions.

indeed my intension was not at all to flame and re reading it I still dont see where something could be missunderstood.

I am well strait to the point as I am a mod in the biggest German salt water forum and a lot of postings a day lead to the fact that I condens my answers to the max.

And yes, also I speak english the entire day it is still not my mother tongue so it might be that you read thinks between the lines I did not want to say.

And also Mr. Schmiedel is totally grey and 40+ you can still call me Peter

Back to topic:

As I said, the intervall for P.hexataenia is every few day in my tank. It might even be every day but as I have two females and cant see which one is spwaning. They also break the water surface and you really here it splashing even several meters away. And that in big living room with 13 fish tanks! Of course you can see a swell in the femals belly, but it is really not that much. In comparism to my B. bimaculatus where she looks like colse to bursting every night. I have a pic from that just need to downlaod it one of this day and will post it.

hey thanks... now that I am paying more attention I will get a better"cycle" and I guess document it here... My tank is in a seperate closed room and I always have the TV on so wether or not they are breaking the surface I dont know.... She is Fat tonight so I will check her tomorrow and then tomorrow night and see if I can get her schedule down...
