Size of fish make a difference?

Does the size of the fish that you put in your tank make much of a difference? I want to get a goby/pistol shrimp pair and the LFS has a pair, but they are really small (about an inch). Would it be better to buy a larger pair or is there no difference? Thanks.

If you have other fish in the tank than it would be best to
size the newbies to the size of the other fish in the tank.
That way the newbies have a chance to hold their own.
Just like in the wild. Little fish are food for big fish. dbr

In my tank most of the fish are pretty peaceful and small the largest are my two mandarins and a flasher wrasse and they're only about 4". The I buy most of the fish for the tank small. I kind of like watching them grow up especially the ones that go through color changes.

If your fish are mostly peaceful and you don't already have that species of fish in your tank, or if there are no fish in your tank I don't see why not.

If you have a generally peaceful tank, size doesn't matter as much, except in who's tank boss. In my 54g, tank boss is a 3" long yellow watchman, who's mostly harmless, and I have fish ranging down to one inch or so [stonogobiops, otherwise known as highfin gobies]. Nobody eats anybody, or nips, which suits me fine.
