Can I get opinions and experiences about/with skeletor eels? They stay rather samll, and aren't primarily fish eaters. So how about one in a reef?

There isn't alot of hands on experience w/ these eels, they tend to be pricey- so they land in few hobbyists hands.
Thats said, its a pebble-toothed eels and therefore a few guesses, You are correct- they aren't primary fish eaters-however snowflake eels have been reported to potshot fish once they get some size. On the flip side-zebra eels don't seem to touch fish at all. So I would say- stick train this eels so it stays in amongst the rockwork and keep it well feed, and you shouldn't have much issue w/ it.

Thanks for the reply, Frank. Looking at the facial structure, I'd have to admit it looks more snowflake than zebra (not that that indicates its tendancy to eat fish as it grows). Would a single PVC suffice, or should there be multiples, and should they be interconnected? many years ago a kept a snake eel and he had a single burried PVC that he always used.

I got the dd one and it's in a 110 with a grouper and small lion. This eel eats really well and has taken shots at the grouper but only when it's feeding time so not intentional. I had also read it's similar to a snowflake however it has some serious teeth visible so will be keeping an eye on that as it grows. Very active and out and about quite a bit more than my snowflake ever was. The lion and the eel appear to totally ignore each other.hope that helps.

Can I ask what the recommended diet is for such an eel? My only experience with an eel was a snake eel I kept for many years back in the '90's. While it only ate live crabs at first, eventually it would suck up anything, even ON Formula 1 frozen food, off the floor of the tank.

I'm thinking shrimp and crab are appropriate. Must the food be whole (ie whole shrimp with gut contents like PE mysis or jumbo hikari mysis? Or can it be chunkys of regular grocery store shrimp? Better to be pure meat, or to include some skin, even shell, based on their teeth?

So far I have fed pieces of fresh shrimp (previously frozen to kill possible bugs) and whole silversides. The eel did not like the large pieces of shrimp so I broke them up more, silversides went straight down. I'll be adding selcon to the food and try fresh squid as well.

Here's the little guy acclimating:

I shots some PE mysis/hikari plankton into mthe rock he is hiding in. He went nuts...ate everything!!

Zoinks thats small....ive never seen one that small before, its the size of an earthworm ;^)
They usually come in close to adult size, about 15-28", they max out around 2 ft.
So you've got alot of growing ahead of you. Glad he's eating

Yeah, it's about as thick as my pinky finger. The LFS apparently has had it for months, but they are notorious for not labeling anything, so I doubt anyone knew what it was. Even the employee I was talking to at first quoted me $30... I said thanks, but call your boss and confirm, because I'm sure it's more than that ;)

Settled in nicely:

DD = Diver's Den on the LiveAquaria website.

Again, I ask... any issue with silversides...I remember them as being very oily.

Oh, lol. That one I should of recognized since I spend enough time looking there.

I have not had any problem with silversides but yes they are somewhat oily. I give quite a wide variety of food though, silversides are given about once every couple weeks only.
