skimmer 24/7?

On large tanks do you guys have your skimmer on 24/7? what about your propeller pumps? thanks

i used to run mine 24/7 but my corals are not happy because no food to eat because all of the food are skimmed within minutes.
i turn off my skimmer for an hour a day and the corals are much happier.
i have a oversized skimmer on a 300 gallon DT no nitrate no algae problem despite of heavy heavy feeding and no water change for a while.
skimmer SWC FDNW 400 running only 3 pumps

If you run your skimmer for an hour and then shut it off, when you turn it back on it will just collect what it would have collected if it would have been left on the whole time. I don't think there would be much of a difference. However, running your skimmer does play an important part in aerating your tank. So that's one good reason to leave it on 24/7 IMO.

i agree about the aerating. i built two large direct discharge skimmers, when i had both running the tank looked more healthy. right now 1 runs 24/7, the other 1 needs a new pump, but when i get a pump it will run 24/7 also. the overflows from my main tank feed smaller tanks where inhabitants reduce waste in food. the more oxygen in the water allows more fish, corals, and etc; helps in biological processes; and reduces ph shifts.

it gives the chances for a corals to feed!
I turn off the skimmer only for an hour A DAY

I think it is recommended to run your skimmer 24/7 to get rid of excess CO2. If you think the skimmer is pulling too much nutrients and starving your tank, adjust the skimmer a bit dryer, of reduce the waterflow through the skimmer :) Of course shutting down the skimmer for an hour after feeding oyster eggs, AA etc. is preferable.

My controller shuts down the Return and Closed Loop pumps during (2) Feed Cycles each day. Since my skiimmer is fed by one of the tank's overflows, the skimmer stops working as well. However, the skimmer's circulating pump continues to chop water in the skimmer body.

Each food cycle is 15 minutes, so technically I stop skimming for 30 minutes a day... I feed so heavily, I doubt the coral are starving...

i might run only 2 pumps instead of 3 of 4 but the skimmer is program to be off for 1 hour a day and during feeding my return pump and my tunze are both off for 15 minutes . it seems my corals are loving it this way... i have a mixed tank about 50/50. the soft corals and LPS grow so much better now by using this method. thanks to neptune apex.

Bullitr so by running your skimmer on only 2 or 3 pumps it does not throw it "off balance"?

Ok maybe Im doing it wrong..I feed my tank Dt's once a week at night, I tyrn my skimmer off all night and back on in the morning....Will this hurt anything everything seems to really enjoy it?????
