Skimmer after sump baffles??

I recently purchased a larger skimmer for my tank, and unfortunately the custom sump that I built does not have room in the "skimmer section". I have one of the tank overflows running into this "skimmer section" and then through a bubble trap to another section, which I will call a reactor section that is just space to install GFO and carbon reactors. I can get the skimmer in this section, but don't know if it will produce correctly as the proteins that the skimmer will remove might get stuck on the other side of the bubble trap seeing that they adhere to air bubbles, which my overflow produces. Does anyone know if I will have issues with skimmate production or will I just have to clean the "skimmer section" from time to time to remove settled detritus???
Thanks for your help.

Some people like to use the skimmer to pull out as much material as it comes from the display, others believe in mechanical filtering, sand bed, then skimmer, followed by polishing with carbon/GFO/etc....

In the end, one versus the other may just be the difference in a day or so before your next WC.

Don't trip, do what you can and when the tank is stable and your bored, try different configurations to determine which has the best performance for your system.

I'm just wondering how much of the skimmate is actually composed of things that are at the surface. I thought the whole idea for surface skimming overflows was to remove the proteins from the surface and them force them into the water column so that the skimmer could remove them. In my case, I'm just worried that they will have time to accumilate at the surface again (and become trapped by my bubble trap baffles) before making it to my skimmer . If I am over analyzing here, let me know.....

Thanks,

Yes, as most of us do. To move past it, try to determine how to quanify the results either way.......and in the big picture of things what will that accomplish? Like I said above.....In the end, one versus the other may just be the difference in a day or so before your next WC.

we are just trying to pull out as much as we can before they breakdown. That occurs suspended throughout the water column.

Either way, it won't make you or break you.

My drains go into a filter sock and yet my skimmer still produces skimmate.

I wouldn't so much be concerned about where the skimmer actually sits in the sump but where it discharges. Discharging upflow of the baffles will reduce micro-bubbles going back into the display.

And remember, this hobby is to be relaxing.
